Joining the SVG Coast Guard Service

Personnel upon enlistment in the Coast Guard Service are required to through a six (6) months Basic Police Training, which is conducted at the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Training School, Old Montrose or at the Regional Police Training Center in Barbados.Personnel upon enlistment in the Coast Guard Service are required to through a six (6) months Basic Police Training, which is conducted at the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Training School, Old Montrose or at the Regional Police Training Center in Barbados.


On completion of the Basic Police Training, personnel attend the Regional Security System (RSS), Basic Seamanship Course. This course provides newly enlisted Personnel with foundation seamanship training necessary for their Coast Guard career. During this course, personnel acquires skills in Practical Seamanship, First Aid, Firefighting, Water Survival Techniques, Navigation and general Coast Guard Duties and Responsibilities to prepare them for life in the Coast Guard. The Basic Seamanship Course is conducted at Coast Guard Base, Callaiqua, RSS Training Institute in Antiqua and Barbuda or at Barbados Coast Guard Base, Pelican.


Personnel receives professional training in areas such as Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Seamanship and Navigation, Diving, Port Security, Leadership, Watchkeeping, Boarding and among others in SVG, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, U.S.A, England and among others. In addition, personnel are encouraged and facilitated to further their academics locally and overseas.
