Overview
The construction of the Coast Guard Base, Calliaqua was completed in 1990, almost ten years after the formation of the Coast Guard Service. It was officially commission on the 26th October 1990 which signifies the Government commitments of providing suitable accommodations for officers who are tasked with the safety and protection of the maritime domain of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The construction of the base was by Kier International and funded was provided by the British Government. As the operations of the Coast Guard expanded, there have been several additions to the Base in the form of accommodations, galley and mess hall, classroom, stores, security booth and physical infrastructure. Funding for these was provided by local government and the Government of the United States of America.
Coast Guard Base, Calliaqua is the Headquarters of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Service. It conducts twenty four hours, seven days a week Operations Center activities. Other activities conducted at the Base are administration, maintenance of assets, recruitment, logistics support and among others.
