The leadership of the Royal St. Vincent and the Police Force (RSVGPF) and Her Majesty’s Prisons (HMP) came together to hold a futsal soccer competition between inmates housed at HMP in Kingstown and those at the Belle Isle Correctional Facility. The competition which began on February 28, 2020 is coordinated by Station Sergeant Meldon James, the Director of Sports in the RSVGPF and forms part of the prison fitness and rehabilitation initiative and the RSVGPF’s wider community policing strategy.

The games were played on the respective prison hardcourts in Kingstown and Belle Isle and saw several teams comprising of different cell blocks competing against each other in preliminary and knockout matches.

On Wednesday March 25, 2020, the final round of games and the prize giving ceremony was held at HMP in Kingstown. In the first game Star Class #2 and Star Class #3 played to a goalless draw; while B-Block defeated C-Block 1-0; the lone goal was scored by Damion Bristol.

At the end of play, Star Class #2 emerged as winners with 8 points, 2 wins and 2 draws. C-Block placed second with Star Class #1 taking the third position. Several players received awards as follows:

  • Most Goals -        Damion Bristol (3 goals)
  • Most Disciplined Team -        B – Block
  • Tournament MVP -        Damion Bristol


Commissioner of Police, Mr. Colin John, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Frankie Joseph and Superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prisons, Mr. Brenton Charles delivered brief remarks and handed out prizes at the closing ceremony.

The championship game between Star Class #2 and C- Block #2 and the third place play-off between C- Block and D- Block #1 were scheduled to be played on Saturday April 18, 2020 on the outside playing field at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex. However, due to the precautionary measures implemented for COVID – 19 pandemic, a new date would be announced.
