The Traffic department is charged with the responsibility of regulating and maintaining the flow of traffic on a daily basis, the investigating of motor vehicle collisions, prosecution of offenders, and police escorting duties. The department conducts exams for persons wishing to obtain driving licenses for both new applicants and persons for additional licenses, serving of summons for the court and insuring that all road signs are maintained. the department accepts payment of traffic tickets and for temporary driving permits. The department is also responsible for the registering and licensing of all licence firearm holders, and dealers in firearm and ammunition throughout the state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The department also have two other sub branches the Police Garage which is comprise of several motor vehicle examiners and inspectors whose primary duty is to ensure that all police vehicles are properly maintained. Other duties entails inspecting all motor vehicle seeking to renew their licence and conducting the driving licensing road exam.
The other sub branch is the Transport department whose sole responsibility is to ensure that police personnel are transported to and from duty.
