FIRE

The Fire Brigade is that unit within the Police Department responsible for fire fighting throughout Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.  The Fire Brigade has its main station at the Central Police Station in Kingstown.  The other units are located at Argyle (AIA International Airport), J.F. Mitchell Airport, Bequia; Canouan Airport and Union Island Airport.

The Fire Department was established in 1871 to protect life and property, but the Fire Service fire fighting ability was not tested until the following year, 1872, when there was a disastrous fire in Kingstown.  Over one hundred and thirty (130) years have elapsed and with the exception of a few new appliances that were acquired, nothing significant was done to enhance the service.
